I do not understand why students are participating in the strike
This might be an idea opposite of what is generally being presented here (this subreddit). However, labor unions are literally using STUDENTS GRADUATION as a means of leverage to achieve their goals. I understand that there are certain needs that need to be met in order to secure a standard of living for Rutgers faculty. However, conducting a strike during such an important event for a whole generation of graduates just seems way too harsh. On top of that, students contribute to what the faculty and staff are being paid. Unions are leveraging STUDENTS' money and STUDENTS' graduation to achieve UNION goals. The priority is unethical to me and very pushy so to speak.
Would shifting the suffering from staff onto students feel any better for these unions? I can't say.
Rutgers should be treating their teaching staff/ faculty fairly according to the standards of living in New Jersey. Underpaying the professors that are building the future of this country, or the world, is ridiculous. It is perfectly understandable. However, an out of state or international students, who are paying tuition out of their own pockets might think, what a waste of my money.
This Strike is solely using STUDENTS' privileges and money to leverage for UNION cause. What a shame. I believe the executives of the labor union should review their behaviors during this strike and observe the aftermath that this brings on the students that teachers are supposed to educate. Let's see if using the root of the nation (or state in this case?) as leverage is what unions are paid to do for their members, then it's a WOW for me.
As for the students who are participating in the strike, I assume you are privileged kids whose burden of tuition is on his/her parents. I cannot see why a sane person would be on the side of the union. But I understand, of course, undergrads may be barbaric and privileged sometime (or all the time). If you have worked in any workplace, you would know doing such action with so many people involved, is super reckless and straight down dirty.
So here it is, give me the bullshit that I fucking paid for and let everybody move on with their lives already.
