how do people take selfies?

i dont know about you guys but it like hurts my soul to point a camera at my face and make a stupid little face. maybe id understand it if they were more like genuine like "i look like this rn" but everyone is sucking in their cheeks and trying to look cool.

i used to take them a lot and then i realized it was fuckin stupid and no one looks like their selfies irl is this just normal should i ignore it??
