Am I likely to face legal action from the copyright owner for uploading 15+ year old magazines online? (American property, I'm in Russia)
In 2007-2009, the Italian company, Panini, published in the UK, and also some Eastern European countries, including Russia, where I'm based, a biweekly children's magazine, "Shrek's Quests", featuring the characters of the "Shrek" franchise, owned by Universal Pictures. It was sold in press kiosks and such. I have obtained and scanned every Russian-language issue and plan on uploading it onto a website where people could read it for free. It's obviously copyright infringement and technically I have no right to do so, but just how likely am I to get sued by Universal/Panini for uploading online a children's magazine only in Russian that they haven't made any money from in over 15 years and never published online themselves at any point? Will they at least send me a takedown notice first?
