Films that inspired positive habits and lifestyle changes
Some movies stay with you long after the credits roll—not just for their entertainment but for the life lessons they impart.
Kaththi - I remember watching Kaththi with friends back in 2014. The emotional pre-interval flashback had me fully immersed. During the interval, we went to grab a drink, and I suddenly decided not to buy a cola. When the movie ended, I told myself, “No more colas.” It’s been over 10 years now, and I haven’t looked back. The movie inspired me to stop but over the time, I realized it was actually good for my health. Whether by accident or design, Kaththi movie helped me build this habit, and it’s something I’m grateful for.
Lover - In 2024, I watched Lover. I couldn’t watch it beyond 20 minutes as it was deeply disturbing for me. Holy cow! I wish no one ever lived that way. However, I pushed myself to watch the movie. Later, I thought about it and decided to introspect: Am I knowingly or unknowingly leaking toxicity into my relationships?. Ever since that movie, every now and then, I take a moment to reflect upon my own. Truly helps me.
Special Mention - I watched few interviews of Vetrimaaran, and I remember him mentioning that Vaaranam Aayiram helped him stop smoking or something along those lines.
Note - There was a time in Kollywood when almost all the heroes were portrayed as purest form of souls (you could call them superheroes in that sense lol!). These characters could practically fight gods for their purest nature. Gosh! Anyways, their actions momentarily inspired us—to be kind, fight for justice, or stand up for what’s right. But I’m not talking about those temporary emotions. This is about the films that lead to real-life habits, ones that stick with you and change you for good.
Finally yes, I believe certain movies can influence us in unexpected ways, shaping habits and mindsets for the better. Have you experienced something similar?
