How safe is Des Moines

I know this question gets asked a lot so the best thing would just be to go and see for myself but how would you compare Tucson to Des Moines? The heat here is driving me crazy and it doesn’t seem like the heat ever stops. I prefer somewhere with a low cost of living that experiences seasons. Can I get a run down of some pros and cons?
