Why Are People So Shallow?

I’ve noticed this strange trend when meeting random people – they always seem to bring up politics or religion, trying to probe into my views on these topics. Honestly, I’m not interested in either, and I see these as huge red flags for casual conversations.

It’s not just that. Younger people I meet often want to discuss the type of entertainment I consume, and if it’s not “Westernized” enough for them, they immediately start judging. At the same time, they hesitate to discuss intelligent topics or anything thought-provoking. Instead, they spend hours obsessing over influencers’ lifestyles, crappy reality shows, and other superficial stuff.

Here’s my take: I’m not into any of these things, and I have zero interest in talking about them. The topics I do enjoy discussing are niche, and the people who get it genuinely enjoy engaging with me on them.

But to everyone else: Stop being so judgmental. Broaden your knowledge. Show some value when you meet someone random instead of flaunting this shallow side of yourself. Talk about meaningful things. Make people want to reach out to you instead of leaving them feeling like they’ve wasted their time.

What’s your take on this? Have you noticed the same behavior? How do you handle these situations?
