If You Hate AI, Read This.
To those who feel upset about the use of AI for proofreading and polishing, I think it's important to consider the bigger picture here.
For many people around the world, English is not their first language. Countless individuals haven’t had the opportunity to access proper education or develop literacy skills. As a result, they may struggle with presentation, expression, or grammar — not because they lack dedication, but simply because they never had the chance to build those skills.
What some people have spent years mastering through education, others never even had the opportunity to learn.
I'm not saying it's acceptable to use AI to generate entire stories — I’m firmly against that. But using AI as a tool for improving, refining, and proofreading one's work is completely fair.
Not everyone is born with the same privileges or opportunities, but that shouldn't diminish their passion for writing. Instead of criticizing their limitations, let's appreciate their love for storytelling and offer constructive feedback on their work itself — not on the challenges they faced that were beyond their control.
I'm a professional musician and composer, and I see AI advancing rapidly in my field too. People can now generate music with just a click, sometimes producing results that rival my own work. But instead of criticizing those tools or the people using them, I take it as motivation to improve — to push myself harder and grow beyond what AI can achieve.
If you're someone who doesn’t use AI, the best response isn’t frustration — it’s to stay healthy, keep improving, and outperform it. Growth is the key.
EDIT
To those asking, "Why not write in your local language?" — it's important to understand that writing in one's native language isn’t as simple as it sounds, especially in developing countries.
Publishing locally can be incredibly expensive, and even if someone is talented, corruption and politics often stand in the way of recognition. For many people in third-world countries, investing large sums of money just to write and publish in their own language is simply not feasible.
Writing in a local language online isn’t much easier either. There’s limited recognition, a smaller audience, and far fewer platforms that support it.
And then there’s the challenge of typing. In many cases, people are forced to write their language using English letters, which isn’t ideal and often deters readers. While third-party local language keyboards do exist, they’re not available for every language. Even when they are, those keyboards can be difficult to use because most are designed with the simplicity of English in mind.
For many, writing in English — with the help of AI for clarity and structure — becomes the most practical option, not because they lack creativity, but because the system itself makes expressing their ideas in their native language so difficult.
Thank you.
