What's with the weird, self-inflicted internet censorship these days?

So I've noticed more and more that people are censoring themselves online using either synonyms or anything asterisk in the middle of the word (SA and f*ck) for example. Now I understand this Practice on the grounds of online media like TikTok, YouTube, Instagram etc because these things are made with the intention of monetary value. But I've seen a few posts on here where swearing and other worst have been censored. Hell I've even seen unnecessary words like Porn and Gun being censored. There has been a massive boom in this censorship culture and I just want to ask, why? My curiosity piqued when someone in a comment section had a go at me for using the anecdote "Doom, Gloom, Murder, Rape and Death" to describe current events - they were upset that I didn't censor the last three words.

Now I understand that the base of it all is to one: Avoid trigger words for those who are affected by those phrases and two: to bypass online word checks. However, we've reached a point where censoring it, is still saying the word, just in a different way?

What's everyone's thoughts on the matter?
