Overly sexualized Teens in s1?
This is a topic that, until bow, I have no come across anyone discussing or even mentioning ever. Maybe its just me or maybe it truly has not been -sufficiently- discussed 🤔
I have no idea how this is going to resonate with other fans or specifically this sub, so bear with me, I’m gonna bluntly blurt it out and hope at least someone feels me 😣:
Does anybody else think that the show, precisely in season 1, is too sexual for a teen show ?
- Vicky/Jeremy: I get it. Vicky’s character is the result of terrible parenting, abandonment, lack of legal guardian and paternal figure, lack of proper self-worth, a dash of free spirited youth and just generally a loss of belonging and proper grounding. To top it off, a lack of material safety. It is a cruel world and it was hard on a character like Vicky. (Although there is Matt who seems to have raised himself and trying to walk a proper way in life totally unlike Vicky? 🤔 anyway, not all siblings are like.) Jeremy and Anna?? Aunt Jenna being ok with that as well?
I just do not understand why the first season has so much sexualization and having teens in such frequent sexual activity? The receptors of this show are meant to be teens and young adults from 11/12 onwards… having vicky jump from one guy to the next like having sex is not an intimate act at all ? How is that ok to be so careless as to walk through Damon’s house in your underwear and dance like you don’t feel in the slightest exposed to a stranger with whom you are planning to have no serious relationship? And ranting about Tyler and Jeremy in the meanwhile? How come aunt Jenna is ok with a 14 yo Jeremy having a girl over at their house and sleeping with her like they’re in their kid twenties dating having their lives figured out? Go drink some milk and prepare your homework!
Elena sleeping over at Stefan’s all the time, Stefan being there in her room in the morning, them sleeping together with aunt Jenna so cool about it - even happy? I understand that this is a serious relationship which I encourage- but they are 17!!!!! Sleeping over and staying at eahc others’ house? This is real adult stuff. Doesnt aunt Jenna wonder how Stefan’s guardian(s) are ok with that (or considering its Damon she realizes the guy doesnt care anyway?) and if he doesnt, how come its ok for her?
Having Rick over is ok as she is an adult though debatable considering she should be someone Elena & Jeremy look up to - the concept of a stable home and relationship is completely f—-ed up in the series, especially in the first season.
The sexy studs car wash ? Caroline constantly speaking of sex? Pursuing Damon right away?(before being compelled to stay with him)
I understand when there is sexual context or even content between adults in the show… but displaying teens in school this way to the viewers, what is that? As if normal peoples’ parents wouldn’t blink twice when they’re sleeping over at their boyfriends/girlfriends at 14-17 ??? What image does that give actual teenagers in their minds?
All in all, the whole thing seems super amplified in season 1 in contrast to other seasons.
