Finishing up homework!

We often hear teachers and parents emphasizing the importance of completing every single homework assignment, not just most of them or the "important" ones. So, putting aside the obvious grade impact, what are the actual, measurable benefits for a student let's say like me or any other regular student trying to do well in school –of really dedicating ourselves to finishing every single homework assignment we're given? Are there advantages beyond just the obvious?
