What would you say to people who are stuck between playing a boring class and playing a suboptimal class?

So I'm going to pick a warlock for my next campaign, mostly because I've heard Abt Eldritch blast and I wanna spam it, which sounds fun. But, everywhere I go, I hear about how bad the warlock is compared to the wizard/sorcerer. But wizards and sorcerers sound boring to play and roleplay. If the warlock being good comes up, it's always pact of the chain or blade, which im not taking (it wouldn't make sense with my character). I know it's not completely reasonable, but I also feel like some people relate to this. So, how would you guys deal with this thought process?
